Criminal Law Lecture #1 and #2

Join attorney Virginia Tehrani for a conversational, interesting attack on CRIMINAL LAW through some real-world examples to help you understand and remember the main premises of CRIMINAL LAW.

In the first video, you will tackle the elements of proof needed for all crimes – intent (mens rea), act (actus reus), and causation – while highlighting voluntary and involuntary acts, acts of omission, specific and general intent, transferred intent, strict and vicarious liability, and actual & proximate cause. Virginia also addresses parties to a crime, including principles in the first degree, accomplices, and accessories after the fact. Finally, Virginia talks about crimes against the person such as assault & battery, aggravated battery, kidnapping, and rape.

In the second video,Virginia describes property crimes, including larceny, larceny by trick, uttering, forgery, receipt of stolen property, forgery, embezzlement, extortion & blackmail, burglary, robbery, and arson. Virginia also breaks down the inchoate crimes of attempt, conspiracy, and solicitation and brings the lecture to a close with descriptions of the most common defenses to crimes, including self-defense, defense of others, defense of property, necessity, duress, insanity, and entrapment. Finish up with the difference between competence and insanity, the M’Naghten Rule, the irresistible-impulse test, and the Durham Rule.
