Meet
Virginia Tehrani
Virginia Vile Tehrani is the owner and CEO of The Law Unscripted LLC. She is also the owner and practicing attorney of Tehrani Law, LLC where she uses her 17+ years of experience as a trial attorney and a victim advocate to fight for her clients against insurance companies and the legal system.
UNDERGRADUATE CAREER
While studying at Middle Tennessee State University in 1998, Virginia joined the undergraduate mock trial team to appease her father, who was Chair of the Political Science Department and coach of the mock trial team at that time. However, once she got involved, she found her own passion for trial advocacy and for the law.
During the time Virginia participated in mock trial at MTSU, her team was one of the American Mock Trial Association’s (AMTA’s) Top Ten National Teams all four years, she was team captain for the last two years, she was team president her final year, and she was recognized as one of AMTA’s Top Ten Mock Trial Attorneys in the country in 2001 – the same year she placed as a Top Ten Mock Mediator in the Country and went to nationals with the moot court team.
Upon graduating Summa Cum Laude from MTSU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (pre-law emphasis) and French in 2002, Virginia was awarded the Norman Parks Award in Political Science, and she was accepted into William & Mary’s School of Law.
LAW SCHOOL CAREER
During her three years there, Virginia competed on the law school’s mock trial and moot court teams, becoming president of the trial team and ranking as the moot court’s top competitor. She also served on William & Mary’s Law Review Editorial Board, the mock trial board, and the moot court board.
In 2005, Virginia received the Lawrence W. I’Anson Award from William & Mary Law School, which is presented to a member of each graduating class who, in the judgement of the Law School faculty, has shown evidence of great promise through scholarship, character, and leadership. She also received the Virginia Trial Lawyers of America Award (VTLA) for trial advocacy upon graduation.
Virginia went on to receive specialized training in civil litigation by earning her L.L.M. (Master of Law) degree in Litigation and Dispute Resolution from George Washington University School of Law, where she completed an internship at the New York City Law Department and where she graduated with the highest honors.
LEGAL CAREER
Throughout her legal career, Virginia has served as both a prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney. With 17+ years of experience in the courtroom, she is at ease in front of both judges and juries. She also has experience in contracts law, debt collection, general civil practice, wills and estates, and family law (including child custody) where she worked as guardian ad litem for children in Alexandria, Virginia.
However, over the past few years, Virginia has chosen to narrow the focus of her legal practice to personal injury, and in January 2023, she opened her own law firm, Tehrani Law, LLC to concentrate on the representation of victims of traffic accidents.
Virginia is licensed to practice law in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., and she has received honors and awards for personal injury law as a Super Lawyer Rising Star for Personal Injury Law in Maryland in 2021 and in D.C. in 2020 and 2021. She was also chosen as one of the Top 40 under 40 Attorneys in Maryland for Criminal Defense in 2019 and for Personal Injury Litigation in 2020.
TEACHING CAREER
Not only has Virginia practiced law, but she has also taught it. She has coached multiple undergraduate and law school mock trial teams, taught ethics at William & Mary School of Law, and taught trial advocacy at the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville, Tennessee. Additionally, Virginia has mentored multiple interns over 17 years, including one who is now a partner in a prestigious Washington, D.C. law firm and another who is now a federal judge.
From her work with law school students and lawyers new to the practice of law, Virginia found a gap in what law students are taught versus what they need to know. In essence, she realized that law school teaches students the art of law but not the actual practice of law. To fill this gap, Virginia created The Law Unscripted LLC, an educational portal where she teaches law students, new lawyers, and lay people the meaning of legal terms, procedures, and ideas.
